We understand that art exhibits may seem off-limits to the uninitiated. And in turn, the average person may feel locked out of their own creativity. To root art making in reality, every year we invite local artists of color to create public art projects for their neighborhood coin-ops. Artists are selected through a proposal review process, and are charged with creating work that is socially relevant, thoughtful, and engaging. To date our focus has been on laundromats in Brooklyn and Harlem.
Similarly Create Change invites local journalists and creative writers to demonstrate their own artistic prowess by documenting these temporary public art projects in broadly accessible language.
