Harlem On My Mind, Too: Harlem Local Narratives

Meet beluvid ola-jendai, 2014 Create Change Artist-in-Residence! He is a Cave Canem poet and was awarded a New York Foundation of the Arts fellowship for poetry in 2001. He has evolved a style of poetry that is half-spoken, half-sung and heavily utilizes Ebonics as lexicon. Harlem On My Mind, Too hopes to engage community members to share what they cherish most about living in Harlem thus amplifying the narratives of Harlemites. Ola intends to translate the documented responses in to a compilation CD project to be shared with the community via a listening party. We amplify the creativity that already exists within communities by using arts and culture to build community networks, solve problems, and enhance our sense of ownership in the places where we live, work, and grow.
