Zeelie Brown – Rose Petal Refuge: Mental Wellness Workshops for Queer & Trans* People of Color

To create Rose Petal Refuge, 2018 Artist-in-Residence Zeelie Brown installed three Soulscapes in Harlem community parks and green spaces. Soulscapes are spaces of sanctuary for queer and trans* people of color, to uphold spirit, self-love, and emotional wellness. Zeelie facilitated a series of healing and mental wellness workshops inside each installation, incorporating sensory experiences using herbs, aromatherapy, taste, and guided meditation. Each Soulscape also featured art making opportunities via bleach painting, as well as custom-made music.
